Steadfast in the Waiting

Our women's ministry blog is up and running again for the 2024-2025 ministry year! If you are interested in being a contributing author, we would love to talk with you about that. Please reach out at women@gracecomm.org.
We shall not grow weary of waiting upon God
if we remember how long and how graciously
He once waited upon us.
- Charles H. Spurgeon

When I spoke to my grandchildren in December they were brimming with excitement. They were waiting for Christmas! My niece is 8 months pregnant and she can hardly wait for the baby to be born. A friend of mine is having a New Year’s wedding and she's waiting for a new chapter in life. Perhaps some of you are waiting for Christmas to be over, or for school to start, or for that promised holiday bonus, or for better health due to illness. We spend a lot of our lives waiting. But the waiting that all Christians should desire is the return of Christ. How many of us are truly ready for that?

Do you secretly wish for more time? Do you want to mend that relationship first? Do more volunteering? Give more generously? Hmmm, perhaps you don’t really understand the gift of grace. God loves you JUST THE WAY YOU ARE - nothing more - nothing less.
In my daily scripture reading, these verses cause me to pause and note them down:
But those who wait on the Lord
Shall renew their strength;
They shall mount up with wings like eagles,
They shall run and not be weary,
They shall walk and not faint.
Isaiah 40:31

It is a special moment when waiting turns into a prayer of thanksgiving and a transformed life.
My soul waits for the Lord. More than those who watch for the morning…
Psalm 130:6
And we desire that each of one of you show the same diligence to the full assurance of hope until the end, that you do not become sluggish, but imitate those who through faith and patience inherit the promises.
Hebrews 6:11-12
When Christ returns He will restore our sunken world, renew our bodies to be strong and disease free, and there will be no more waiting, no more yearning, no more wishing for the next best thing. We will be fulfilled.
This devotional was written by Linda Carroll. Linda's life has been marked by adventure, integrity, and a touch of intrigue. Wherever she goes and whoever she meets, she is quick to share her source of hope (1 Peter 3:15) and to encourage others with a well-placed joke or meaningful story. If you ask nicely, she may let you try her banana upside down cake! This is Linda's first year on the Women's Ministry Leadership Team.
